A DIARY ENTRY

I’m in a difficult situation at the moment because I’ve lied to my parents and to the police because I said that Alex was at my house when the CD was stolen. Now they’ve discovered that Alex was the thief and that I lied because they’ve found a security video which shows Alex while he’s stealing.

My parents are very angry with me: I can’t use my mobile phone or computer during one month and I’m grounded for 2 months. Now it’s normal that they are angry, because I shouldn’t have lied, but I wanted to protect Alex. I know that Alex wasn’t right stealing at the shop, I hope he never do it again. Maybe if I was in his situation, I would also have lied to the police. Now I know that if I ever have a similar problem, I’m never going to lie again to the police, because now I’ve such a big problem!

I’m not sure what will happen now, but I hope it all ends fine, I don’t want more problems with my parents and I hope I won’t lose my friend.

A DISCUSSION ESSAY

The Internet has become very important since the end of the XX century. Before the Internet was invented people communicated with letters and they used books to look for information. Now people can communicate faster, share opinions, share and find information in an easy way and it's also used for entertainment.

Books, on the other hand, are useful because the information doesn't disappear and you don't need an internet connection or electricity. However, it's much more difficult to find the information; they are more expensive and more impractical. The Internet, however, is very useful because it has much more possibilities than books, it's faster and easier to find information and you can also communicate very fast with people all over the world. However, you always need electricity and an Internet connection; it's also possible that some information is wrong or disappears.

All in all, I think that Internet is better because it's more practical, cheaper, more useful, faster and easier.

REPORTING AN INTERVIEW

An interview with Joke by Inés Beekers

Joke said that she wasn’t feeling very well today, because she was really tired. She’s happiest when she’s painting, and she said she couldn’t live without coffee and sleep. If she could chose to be anywhere in the world now, she would like to be in Holland.
Joke said she hasn’t got a really good memory about the past. She also remembers that the first day she went to school she was really nervous. She has been to a lot of different countries, but the best holiday she has ever had was to Sweden a long time ago. She didn’t do anything special on her last birthday, she celebrated it with her family.
She recognized that she isn’t really positive about the future, but she thinks that the planet will be more or less the same in a hundred years. She would like to ban wars and misery. When she’s older, she would love to live in Holland. She promised that she was going to paint until she dies.

A LETTER: explaining a problem

I've had a problem recently because my parents think I’m not old and responsible enough to go out late with my friends. They say I have to be home before 12 o'clock. All of my friends go out until 3 o'clock and I would like to stay with them all night. I've talked with my parents and we've argued a lot, but they haven't changed their opinion.

I think my parents are too strict because I think I'm old enough to go out until later. I know it will be difficult to reach an agreement, but I would be very happy.

I'd really like some advice because my friends and I don't know what to do or what to say to my parents anymore.

A FORMAL LETTER

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to enquire about lottery funds for a project in our town.
Ollers is a very small village from the community of Vilademuls in Girona, Spain. It’s a very nice place and it is very peaceful. But there aren’t any possibilities of transport for young people to go to the town or the city. So the parents have to drive a lot. It is a reason for a lot of people with young children to leave the countryside, and move to the town. With the money from the lottery fund we could provide transport to the town, and more people will stay at the countryside.
I would be grateful if you could send some information. If you have any questions about my idea, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours faithfully,
Inés Beekers
